Big Joanie Sign to Kill Rock Stars Label

Exciting news from Kill Rock Stars as today they announced that Big Joanie have signed to their label.

As the band’s Facebook page states, “Big Joanie is a black feminist punk band. We’re like The Ronettes filtered through 80s DIY and riot grrrl with a sprinkling of dashikis. Big Joanie formed to make awesome music but also to create a continuum for black punks by presenting a strong, powerful vision of black womanhood and telling black kids about black punks who came before us. By making black punks more visible we believe we can inspire more young black people to get involved in punk music.”

To commemorate the signing, they have announced a split 7 inch single between Big Joanie and fellow UK punk band, Charmpit. Kluster Rooms Sessions is available for pre-order now, in tandem with Bandcamp Day, and will be released on November 27th, 2020.

The 7-inch features Big Joanie’s haunting depiction of a lost relationship ‘Cut Your Hair’ on the A-side and Charmpit’s whip-sharp retort to a petty boss ‘Bad Attitude’ on the B-side.

Be expecting a full-length album in 2021, their follow up to 2018’s Sistahs. It will be released via Daydream Library Series in the UK/EU and Kill Rock Stars everywhere else.

Big Joanie have recently been mentioned by Joe Talbot, frontman of IDLES, as the act to listen to this year, and are one of the female-led support acts for IDLES UK tour in 2021, joining them on the majority of dates. I for one can’t wait to see them.

Check out Big Joanie’s new stuff on Bandcamp, and pre-order Kluster Room Sessions, out on November 27. Congratulations sistahs!
