In case you missed the premiere last night, Brian was joined by Adam (drummer) and Daniel (bassist) from the “organised chaos” Girl Band! Described by IDLES frontman Joe Talbot as “the best band in the world,” they discuss what they’ve been up to lately, the band’s 10 year anniversary, how the band got started, early gigs, venturing outside of Dublin, big tracks, being loud, the Girl Band tracks Brian has tattooed on his arm, their hiatus and return, scuppered plans, future tours with IDLES and of course, the LEGENDARY QUICK-FIRE round!

The Dublin four-piece have been kicking around for more than a decade and have two albums under their belt; both released on the Rough Trade label: Holding Hands with Jamie (2015) and The Talkies (2019). With a loud, tightly coiled aggressive sound, the band are literally manipulating their instruments while Kiely howls his way through via impressionistic lyrics. Despite only having two albums, the band has played a huge role in influencing fellow Irish bands, including Fontaines D.C., who have been very vocal about Girl Band paving the way for Irish bands overseas.
The AF GANG is an online community of like-minded souls. A Facebook group where you can be who you want to be when you want to be without the fear of ridicule or judgement. Created through the love of IDLES, naturally growing to encompass the love of all music, the community has grown to more than 30,000 people. The Goth Kitchen was created during the lockdown of 2020, with IDLES chatting with Brian in his kitchen on Zoom to entertain us while we were all stuck indoors. Since then, interviews from the Goth Kitchen have become a regular occurrence with more and more bands coming in for a chat, including; DITZ, Frauds, JOHN, ĠENN, Crows and many more.
The Goth Kitchen will be back on Wednesday, 24th March and every fortnight thereafter, so keep an eye on the YouTube channel to see who is up next and whether or not they like Marmite.
