In fall 2021, Bristol, UK’s IDLES will return for their first US tour in nearly two years, behind last year’s acclaimed #1 charting album Ultra Mono. Let me tell you now, if you haven’t seen them live yet; you have to do this. IDLES will make you dance, cry, scream and feel unified with all the great people there with you. There is a reason why this band is loved so much — they love us, and they show it.
Full routing below, artist presale begins Wed April 28th @ 12pm ET and general on-sale begins Fri April 30th @ 12pm ET. Gustaf and Lithics will open. Fans can access artist pre-sale by signing up for the band’s mailing list here.
Ultra Mono debuted at #1 on the UK charts, and in the US went #1 on the Emerging Artists chart, Top 10 on Album Sales, Vinyl Sales, Rock Albums, and on the Alternative Album charts. The album received widespread critical acclaim.
Check out some other great tracks from the album, “Grounds”, “Model Village” (directed by Michel Gondry) and “Mr. Motivator”.
Last fall, IDLES performed Ultra Mono at Abbey Road studios for a series of live streaming events; watch the footage here (via KEXP): HERE.
Across all twelve brutally relevant tracks, Ultra Mono doubled down on the vitriolic sneer and blunt social commentary of IDLES’ past work, with themes of active presence, inclusivity, class, gender inequality, nationalism, community, and toxic masculinity remaining ever-present.
The album was produced by Nick Launay (Nick Cave, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Arcade Fire) and Adam ‘Atom’ Greenspan (Anna Calvi, Cut Copy), with Kenny Beats (FKA Twigs, DaBaby, Vince Staples) providing additional programming and features guest vocals from Jehnny Beth (Savages), and additional guest contributions from Warren Ellis (Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds), David Yow, and Jamie Cullum.
Last year IDLES frontman Joe Talbot also launched his own virtual talk show called BALLEY TV, hosting guests like Sharon Van Etten, Nadya Tolokonnikova (Pussy Riot), Lauren Mayberry (CHVRCHES), Mike Skinner (The Streets), + more.
IDLES were also recently featured alongside Fiona Apple, Lucinda Williams, Courtney Barnett, + more as part of a special 10th-anniversary reissue of Sharon Van Etten’s ‘Epic’. Hear their cover of “Peace Signs” HERE.
