CMAT is the moniker of Ciara Mary-Alice Thompson, and she has just released the video for her new single, “2 Wrecked 2 Care”. The Dublin based singer took the brave step of launching her solo career during lockdown. CMAT had previously been the vocalist in indie duo Bad Sea but left to launch herself as the “Global Celebrity Teen Pop Sensation from Ireland” on Twitter. This, of course, would be cringe-worthy if it wasn’t for the fact the CMAT has the songs to back up her declarations.
For a couple of years, CMAT has been writing from personal experience as a way of “telling jokes to mask the tears”. This combination of humour and vulnerability has helped her build resilience.
The single “2 Wrecked 2 Care” was released a fortnight ago, and CMAT now gives us the video. This features her duetting with Muppet-inspired furniture and shoes about getting “One hour sleep, I’m the missing link between the living and the dead.“
“I wrote it during a particularly bad period for my sleeping pattern,” she explains. “It’s a song about not being able to fall asleep and anxiety/stress-related insomnia, something I have suffered from for years. I think I developed it during years of low-paying, irregular shift work.”
The video showcases CMAT’s comic talents and must have been such fun to film.
CMAT has been hotly tipped and not only by herself in her tongue-firmly-in-cheek Twitter declaration! The Irish Times included her as one of their Ten Irish Music Acts to watch out for in 2021.
Live CMAT’s biggest shows to date for next year — The Academy, Dublin on 11 March 2022 and Omeara, London on 8 April 2022 sold out in three days. In addition, her debut headliner dates in Dublin, Cork and London re-scheduled for November are also all sold out. You can catch CMAT at various festivals, including Latitude, End Of The Road, Wilderness, Live at Leeds, Wild Path this summer, and she has also been announced for Primavera 2022.
