Philly-Based Artist Body Meat Signs to Partisan Records + Shares Video for “Twigs”

Partisan Records has announced the signing of rising Philadelphia-based multi-instrumentalist and producer Body Meat (real name, Christopher Taylor). To coincide with the signing, Body Meat has shared a stunningly choreographed music video for his song “Twigs,” the opener off his latest EP entitled Year Of The Orc (out now). Watch here:

Taylor says of the song: “‘Twigs’ is about finding balance between one’s mental realm and one’s physical realm. How that balance has to be continuously rearranged over and over again through life. Another search for harmony with the present.”

Channelling sugar-rush synths and bracing noise, the Philadelphia producer continues his quest to make pop music stranger and more head-spinning—and to test listeners’ ability to follow the twists and turns. Year of the Orc offers a genre-flouting masterclass that balances eclecticism with accessibility and pulls as much from Boyz II Men and D’Angelo as it does from Afro-Portuguese dance and Angolan Kuduro music. Written and recorded entirely in Taylor’s Philadelphia apartment, the project follows Body Meat’s similarly acclaimed 2019 ‘Truck Music’ EP. Taylor is currently recording his full-length Partisan debut, more info on that coming soon. ‘Year Of The Orc’ is now available for physical pre-order for the first time (here).

Body Meat has confirmed a NYC performance for Saturday, August 28th at the Knockdown Center in Queens as part of their ‘Outline’ series. That bill will also feature ESG, Magdalena Bay + more (tickets here). He was also recently confirmed for Hopscotch Fest in Raleigh, NC this September. More touring is to be announced shortly.

Watch the video for another ‘Year Of The Orc’ highlight – “ULTIMA” — which was filmed in rural Maryland where Taylor spent much of his adolescence.

Body Meat also recently filmed a ‘Patch Notes’ session for Fact Mag at his Philadelphia apartment (watch that here).
