Find our music reviews here, from albums, EPs, singles, videos and even live streaming events. Our opinion doesn’t matter but you still might enjoy it. Or you might hate us forever. It’s happened before, it will happen again.

It’s pretty hard to write a review when it comes to music. It’s such a personal experience and taste’s differ so widely that it feels absurd to put your opinion out there sometimes. We would hate for someone not to listen to something because we didn’t like it. One person’s trash is another person’s treasure. But we will always be honest and tell you what we truly think. You may well disagree but that’s the joy of it all, isn’t it?

  • Interviews
    Interviews

Sometimes, we are lucky enough to do interviews our idols and even our IDLES. This is where we show you what we spoke to bands and artists about their music, touring, new releases, working together, making videos and so much more.

Musicians are inspired by musicians before them, but not only them. Music comes from literature, films, TV, and from emotion, experiences, grief, tragedy and heartbreak. We explore what makes a record, what makes a song and what they mean to the bands and artists that created them.

Of course, it’s not all serious business. We want to know what their favourite chocolate bar is or if they like marmite. This is what the people want from interviews right? We won’t ever ask about someone’s private life though, cos, well, it’s private. We’re here for the music, not the gossip.

There is joy in finding new music discoveries that knock your socks off. We showcase the new bands and artists that we’ve discovered and need to shout about.

We don’t care if they’re already big in Japan or if they’ve only made one recording so far. Even if you’ve just heard Nirvana for the first time and think other’s should listen, we welcome your recommendations about who to listen to.

We love showcasing the lesser-known and unsigned acts the most of course. Those we think deserve a much wider appreciation and fan base. So send us your music, we would love to listen and make your band or an artist you love on our list of new music discoveries. Free press!

    Gigs

Ah gigs. Remember those? Hopefully we’ll be able to enjoy them again soon too. What beats going to a brilliant gig with friends, getting drunk, having a dance, get squashed in a packed and very hot place with lots of sweaty drunk people? Then afterwards your ears ring for days, and you buy a kebab. Welcome to the joy of live music. It’s a real event and so many memories have been made at live concerts, for better or worse.

We’ll let you know when bands are on tour, which acts are on the festival line-up, where you can get tickets and we’ll even review the ones we go to ourselves.

    Documentaries

Music documentaries offer a fascinating insight into the world of bands and artists. Often giving us behind the scenes look at life on the road while touring, recording music and what their personal lives are like.

Following acts across their careers allows us to see their progression; their rise to fame (and sometimes fall from fame), and the journey the group members and their crew have been on along the way.

We discuss the best of music documentaries here. Those that have made us laugh, cry and have inspired us to become musicians ourselves in some cases. Most of us are too lazy for that though and just enjoy the music and the madness.

    Music Features

Our music features bring you our thoughts and opinion on everything about music. It could be that we love a particular band or artist so much that we just have to write about them retrospectively. Perhaps something has happened in the music world that we need to talk about, more than just a news item, but something we need to deep dive into.

It’s not all serious though. Who doesn’t love reading lists? It’s the guilty pleasure of millions of people. We love to disagree with other people, it’s what makes us human. So you’re welcome to shout at the screen and leave us a comment if you hate the way we ranked a certain bands albums.

Music isn’t just about the music of course. It’s a way of life. We explore genres and scenes, eras, clothing styles, vinyl releases, historical events, and sometimes we just like making playlists. That’s what good friends do for each other.

    Disobedient Things

We don’t just love music here at Disobedient Sounds. We are big TV, Film and Gaming fans too. So every now and then we like to talk about what we are watching or playing.

This will often involve Twin Peaks and anything David Lynch related. Or it will be about survival games as we do surviving pretty well.

This will be where you find us talking about amazing cult TV shows like The OA, Carnivale, Lovecraft Country and much more. We love horror and surreal movies, world cinema, art-house and indie films. They often have great soundtracks too which we will definitely be talking about here.
